What a GST tax invoice must contain

Rule 46 of the CGST Rules lists the particulars of a tax invoice. In practice a registered supplier's invoice should show:

  • the supplier's name, address and GSTIN
  • a unique, consecutive invoice number (up to 16 characters) and the date of issue
  • the recipient's name, address and GSTIN if registered, and the place of supply
  • a description of the goods or services, the HSN or SAC code, quantity and unit
  • the taxable value, discount if any, and the rate and amount of CGST and SGST, or IGST
  • the total invoice value, and whether tax is payable on reverse charge
  • the supplier's signature or digital signature

Your invoice stays on your device

This generator runs entirely in your browser. The details you type are not uploaded, and the PDF is produced by your browser's print-to-PDF. You can make 3 free invoices a day on each device with no sign-up.

When you need a full e-invoice

Businesses above the notified turnover threshold must report each B2B invoice to the e-invoice portal (IRP) and receive an Invoice Reference Number (IRN) and QR code. This free generator does not create an IRN. Check the current e-invoicing threshold on the GST portal, and use accounting software with e-invoicing built in once you cross it.
